INTECSEA History

In April 2008, INTEC was acquired by the WorleyParsons Group. During the transition phase following the acquisition, management recognized a great advantage in combining the capabilities of INTEC and WorleyParsons Sea. INTECSEA incorporated all the capabilities within INTEC, WorleyParsons Sea and the WorleyParsons floating systems, offshore pipeline, and subsea teams.

The history of INTEC Engineering and Sea Engineering is summarized below:

INTEC Engineering History

INTEC Engineering was founded in 1984 by W. J. Timmermans, J. Gillespie, A. R. Schultz, and D. S. McKeehan with participation and financial backing of a Finnish shipbuilding company.

After a successful start, INTEC suffered with the rest of the oil industry, when in early 1986 the price of crude oil dropped from $35 to $10 per barrel. As a result of a sustained international business development effort and after several lean years, the company started growing again in 1988. INTEC was awarded contracts in Malaysia, Argentina and Brazil, followed in 1989 by even larger projects in Canada and Taiwan. In 1993, the INTEC office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was established to better serve its Clients in the Far East and Southeast Asia. In 1996 the INTEC office in Delft, The Netherlands, got its start, focusing on markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa. In 1999 INTEC opened an office in Buenos Aires to support several large ongoing Latin American onshore pipeline and facilities projects and to pursue and support future Latin American opportunities.

December 2000 - INTEC was acquired by the Heerema Group, and became the fourth operating division, completely equal to and independent of the other divisions, retaining its own management and supervisory board. This independent status allowed INTEC the autonomy to continue providing its unbiased engineering services to the energy industry worldwide.

September 2001 - INTEC acquired ARCAN Ingenieria y Construcciones (ARCAN) to integrate and leverage joint capabilities and build on previous success in all the engineering aspects of onshore facilities and pipelines, and to pursue engineering and project management work in the entire South American continent. ARCAN's staff of over 100 employees with offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; and Santa Cruz, Bolivia was a part of the INTEC Latin American operation.

December 2001 - INTEC opened an office in Brazil, where activities actually started in January 2003 when a strategic plan was put forth to increase INTEC operations in the country.

January 2002 - INTEC acquired Fuel Subsea Engineering in the U.K. With the integration of INTEC's existing activities in the U.K., this provided an INTEC base near London, and the headquarters for the Europe, Africa and Middle East Region.

June 2002 - INTEC opened an office in Perth as part of the Asia Pacific regional operation, providing engineering and project management services to the local oil and gas industry.

April 2003 - INTEC Engineering launched the LNG Business Unit. Building on its proven track record in the marine industry, INTEC Engineering provided LNG services to support operators in the offshore development of LNG services.

December 2003 - after the retirement of Willem M. Timmermans, President and Chief Executive Officer of INTEC Engineering, John B. Reed of Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC), took over as CEO in January 2004 until he returned to Heerema in December 2005 as CEO of HMC in December 2005.

August 2004 - INTEC Engineering announced the sale of its subsidiary, ARCAN, effective August 2005. Originally acquired in 2003, ARCAN Engineering and Construction in Argentina, Chile and Bolivia focused on providing onshore engineering and EPC services to local clients. This divestiture enabled INTEC management to focus on its high value core skills in offshore engineering and deepwater specialties. INTEC's operations in Brazil and Mexico were unaffected by the sale of ARCAN and they remained an important part of the INTEC expansion to serve its clients that required upstream engineering in the offshore and deepwater areas.

Mid-2005 - INTEC had grown to become a truly international engineering company with over 500 employees. Operations in Houston, Delft, Woking, Perth, Kuala Lumpur and Rio de Janeiro had substantially expanded offshore and deepwater capabilities. At the same time, project offices were established in Cairo, Lagos and Moscow.

July 2005 - INTEC sold the Hardware Business Unit (formerly Fuel Subsea Engineering in the U.K.) that dealt with the design, fabrication and installation of the D-Mac connector to Verderg Connectors Ltd. These actions were taken to further expand INTEC’s fundamental area of expertise – offshore and deepwater engineering.

Between 2005 and 2007 most of the INTEC offices were updated. In addition to the clean, bright lines of the office design; ergonomic furniture, well fitted conference centers, the upgraded computer equipment and network all combined to create an environment comfortable for staff and clients to perform project work without the drawbacks and inconveniences of older facilities.

Sea Engineering History

Sea Engineering Associates, Inc., founded by Pieter G. Wybro in 1991, was the forerunner to Sea Engineering, Inc. (Sea), established in 1998 as a privately held engineering services company to the oil & gas industry. The mission of Sea was to provide the highest standards of independent engineering services for the complete systems design of floating systems.

1998 - Sea worked with MODEC to develop the MOSES Tension Leg Platform (TLP) concept, which ultimately became the Prince TLP, the first of its kind and the first of many successful floating systems designs for not only TLPs, but also SPARs, Semi-submersibles, FPSOs, FSOs and monohull FPUs. Sea established itself as an innovator of new technology and was successful in bringing to reality several new floating system concepts and components, beginning with MOSES.

Sea headquartered in Houston, Texas, and in 2006 established a high value engineering office in Hyderabad, India. At this time, Sea’s reputation as the premier provider of engineering services for the complete design of floating marine systems was well established. Under the leadership of leading industry experts and a well seasoned staff, Sea provided core capabilities in not only the design and analysis of hulls, but also the mooring and foundation systems, and the risers.

January 2007 - Sea became part of the WorleyParsons Group and their name changed to WorleyParsons Sea. Following the acquisition of INTEC by the WorleyParsons Group in 2008, INTEC joined with WorleyParsons Sea to form INTECSEA, a company of outstanding breadth of capability and depth of project experience to serve the oil & gas industry.
