Marine Pipelines & Risers: Services: Research and Development
_ Services: Research and Development

Since its inception INTEC has performed approximately twelve (12) Joint Industry Studies (JIS) on a variety of topics, many of which were related to Marine Pipelines and Risers. The first such effort was undertaken by fifteen participants in 1985, focusing on deepwater (1,500 to 3,500 ft, 450 to 1,050 m) Gulf of Mexico development applications. Subsequent JIS efforts addressed deepwater pipelines in the North Atlantic and northern North Sea, insulated pipelines, installation of offshore pipelines by towing methods, arctic marine pipeline installation and trenching and low cost installation methods for deepwater pipelines.

In 1986 INTEC was selected by BP to assist in the development of a diverless pipeline tie-in and connection system as part of the DISPS program. INTEC participated in system design through to full scale, land based prototype testing.

In 1992 INTEC became the Technical Advisor for Texaco's DeepStar joint industry development program, taking underwater development technology beyond 6,000 ft (1,800 m) water depths. In this capacity INTEC coordinated a multi-discipline team of industry experts covering all aspects of deepwater subsea production, including long distance multi-phase flowlines and the associated problems of hydrate and wax formation.

Early Research and Development efforts and the recent efforts in full scale testing programs in the development of various project related work scopes have solidly established INTEC as a world leader in various specialized areas. Many projects and studies subsequently have been leading to the award of engineering contracts to effect specific applications of the technologies developed. INTEC continues to conduct specific study and research tasks on a variety of specialized subjects.
