| Project Experience: Templates and Manifolds
Early in 1993, Ampolex, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, requested assistance from INTEC in connection with its Phase I program and specifically the conceptual design of the subsea system for the Lufeng Field Development near Hong Kong. Ampolex preferred the majority of the work to be performed in its head office in Sydney, with support from INTEC's Houston office.
INTEC's role in Phase I consisted of evaluating the following field development options with the objective of selecting one for further detailed concept development in Phase II:
- Cluster wells with individual flexible risers
- Cluster wells with central manifold
- Cluster wells with individual production guide bases
- Unitized well template with integral manifold (base case development option)
Subsequently, the unitized template was selected as the basis for the Overall Development Plan (ODP). For Phase II, an integrated project team was formed in Ampolex's office with INTEC being responsible for the preliminary design of the subsea system. This included the design of the template and manifold, trees, control system, flexible risers, subsea pumps, and preparation of the ODP.
During the project the reserve estimates were downgraded and it was decided to continue with a scaled down development, using a tanker based floating production system (FPSO) with fewer wells. During the redesign phase, INTEC also served as liaison between Ampolex and the FPSO contractor.
